Five-party alliance agrees to extend term of transitional justice commissions

KATHMANDU, July 15: An agreement has been reached among the five-party alliance parties to extend the term of transitional justice commissions.  


A meeting of top leaders of the ruling five-party alliance took the decision in this regard. 


Vice-Chairperson of the Rastriya Janamorcha, Durga Pokharel told media persons that the meeting decided to extend the term of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP).

The term of both TRC and CIEDP expires on Saturday and bills related to these two bodies would be tabled in parliament today itself.


Similarly, discussion was also held on citizenship related bill in the meeting, according to Pokharel. The meeting drew the conclusion to pass the citizenship related bill in consent. 


The meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba was also participated by senior leader of Nepali Congress (NC) Ram Chandra Poudel, Vice-President Purna Bahadur Khadka, CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Chairman of the CPN (Unified Socialist) Madhav Kumar Nepal and leader of the Janata Samajwadi Party Rajendra Shrestha.
