KATHMANDU, Jan 29: The Federation of Contractors Association of Nepal (FCAN) has expressed serious concerns over the decision of Chitwan National Park to issue an arrest warrant against contractor Shahadev Khadka of Indo-Sagun JV after a rhino was found dead in a ditch on the roadside where the construction company was at work last Sunday.
FCAN states that the company was working under its contract by following the necessary protocols to build a concrete drainage system at the road section and had to leave the ditch open for the concrete to dry up, which caused the incident. The federation has also objected to the arrest of contractor Khadka, stating that the authorities are well aware that the incident at the site was a natural occurrence. They have also demanded the release of Khadka from police custody.

The FCAN has also demanded the government of Nepal and the concerned bodies not to blame the construction businessmen for such incidents that happen naturally in the area where infrastructure development works will be carried out in the future as well. The federation also expressed sadness by the death of the rhino.
Furthermore, the federation has urged the government and the bodies concerned not to blame the contractors for similar incidents at the construction site of physical infrastructure projects in the future.
The FCAN has strongly demanded a probe committee to be formed with the involvement of representatives of the FCAN and the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport in the investigation committee to investigate the incident thoroughly.
