JANAKPUR, March 23: A boy is on fast unto death from Wednesday demanding permission to appear for this year´s School Leaving Certificate (SLC) exams starting from Thursday.

Shivam Sah, 16, of Bharatpur-5, Birendra Bazar in Dhanusha started the hunger strike after repeated pleas with the authorities failed to grant him permission for the exams. [break]

The student of Janata Jaiswal Higher Secondary School, Godar, was expelled on December 22, 2010 allegedly due to pressure from a family of a female classmate ´with whom he spoke at a public place´. Sah, a topper since sixth grade, was not allowed to sit even for the test exams in January despite several pleas.

The District Education Office (DEO) and the school conducted separate exams for him after the Janakpur Appellate Court ruled in his favor on March 13.
