Face to Face and Haka-Haki re-launched

KATHMANDU, June 14: Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (NEFEJ) has revived its flagship magazine - Face to Face (in English) and Haka-Haki (in Nepali) - amidst a function in Kathmandu on Friday.



The bi-monthly magazines primarily focus on issues related to environment and sustainable development.[break]



Minister for Finance, Industry and Commerce Shankar Prasad Koirala and British ambassador Andrew James Sparkes jointly re-launched the magazine Face to Face at the function held at the Staff College, Jawalakhel. Haka-Haki is set to be published in Asar.



Addressing the function, Minister Koirala said that NEFEJ has been actively involved in creating awareness on environmental issues for a long time and wished that the newly re-launched magazine would consolidate its publication in the days to come.



As environment is so much inter-related with development, one could not ignore the issue, Minister Koirala further said, adding that the government too is focusing on clean industrial production and in promoting renewable energy. ´We have even allocated sizeable amount for the development and promotion of renewable energy,´ he said.



British ambassador Sparkes praised NEFEJ"s efforts to bring out the magazine with the support from the UK Department of International Development (DfID) and expressed hope that the magazine would sustain to create awareness.



Saying that Nepal is facing serious challenges due to climate change, Sparkes informed that the UK government"s almost 65 million pounds assistance for another four years has special focus on development and promotion of programs on climate change, sustainability and rural livelihood.



Acting secretary at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment Shankar Prasad Adhikari, president of Federation of Nepalese Journalists Shiva Gaunle, founder president of NEFEJ Krishna Prasad Sigdyal and general secretary Dhurba Basnet also expressed their views at the function chaired by president Tirtha Koirala.
