JHAPA, July 25: Medicinal herbs worth around Rs 81.14 million were exported through the eastern border point at Kakarbhitta in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2023/24.
Banke becoming centre for medicinal herb farming
According to the Quarantine Office in Kakarbhitta, Chiraito, Reetha, Majitho (Rubia Cordifolia), Berberis Aristata, gooseberry (Amala), Sati Bayar and other various forest products have been exported. In the same fiscal year, around 160 metric tons of Chiraito, equivalent to Rs 48.6 million, were exported. Chiraito is commercially cultivated in the districts of Taplejung, Panchthar, Illam, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha, Dhankuta, and Bhojpur.
During the same period, 83 metric tons of Majitho worth Rs 16.52 million; 151 metric tons of Reetha worth Rs 9.694 million; 11 metric tons of gooseberry (Amala) worth Rs 1.134 million; and 24 metric tons of Berberis Aristata worth Rs 1.2 million were exported.Exports of medicinal herbs worth over Rs 80 million
