Expired beer worth Rs 8.2 million confiscated

KATHMANDU, FEb 16: The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has confiscated date-expired beer worth Rs 8.2 million.


The Department seized around 2,757 cartons of date-expired beer in the course of market monitoring carried out on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Director General of the Department, Mahesh Bhattarai said beer of different brands including Bahrasinghe, Tuborg, Mustang, Nepal Ice, Carlsberg, Gorkha were seized in the course of market monitoring.


The Department on Tuesday seized 2,100 cartons of beer stored in three go-downs of Climax Trading Company, the dealer of Yak Brewing Company, at Dhumbarahi.


Similarly, 355 cartons of date-expired beer were seized from a go-down of Sanskar Traders Pvt Ltd, Sinamangal, as well as 302 cartons of beer from a go-down of CK Trading Pvt Ltd, Sinamangal, on Wednesday.  


The Department has urged the consumers to remain alert in the sale and distribution of low-quality and date-expired beer and other soft drinks and asked the consumers to inform the Department if found so, reads a press release issued by the Department.
