KATHMANDU, Sept 21: Defense Minister Bhimsen Das Pradhan has stressed the need to equip the Nepal Army with resources and means so as to make disaster management effective.
At today's meeting of the Legislature-Parliament's Business Advisory Committee, he briefed the efforts and progresses being made on disaster management and development works.
"NA has significant contribution to rescue and responses works during disasters whether that be the incident of inundation in Terai or landslides causing loss of lives and properties in hilly region", he added.
ICT in Disaster Risk Management and Reduction
As floods and landslides are recurring natural phenomenon in Nepal, the preparedness is a must to prevent loss of lives and properties, Minister Pradhan said.
He was saying this in a discussion on the bill on disaster risk reduction and management tabled at the parliament.
NA Chief Rabindra Chhetri pledged to collaborate for the shared responsibility of nation's development to the best of its strengths. He underlined the need of arranging air ambulance for emergency rescue in disasters.
The meeting has directed the Defense Minister to make the NA well-equipped with resources for effective disaster response.
Likewise, the meeting also instructed the minister to arrange a helicopter (MI 17) and three small choppers in each province for rescue operations during disasters.
