After witnessing some serious deterioration in his health on the 4th day of the ongoing Satyagraha, Gurung’s well-wishers admitted him to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, from the Satyagraha venue in Mangal Bazar, Patan.

According to the statement released by the campaigners, Gurung will receive first line treatment and wishes to continue his Satyagraha at the hospital under medical supervision.

Alongside Gurung, a total of five campaigners including Iih, Subani Prajapati, Pukar Bam and Puja KC are currently on a ‘no water, no food’ fast at Patan Durbar Square demanding availability of PCR tests for everyone, implementation of the 4-TIER triage approach, improving the condition of Isolation and Quarantine Centers, protection of front liners and accountability and transparency in COVID-19 management process and many more.

The Satyagraha began on 26th June 2020.

In response to the government’s lack of urgency, transparency, and accountability concerning COVID-19 management, a series of non-violent, citizen-led, non-partisan protests have been held across the country in the last 3-4 weeks.

Over 100 independent protests and solidarity events have been organized in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Biratnagar, Dhangadi, Chitwan, Surkhet, Birgunj, Dhankuta, Bhaktapur, Butwal, Dang, Palpa, Hetauda, Lalitpur among other places.

These protests were self-organized, leader-less and spontaneous.
