KATHMANDU, Jan 3: The Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation has started construction of an enclosure within the Chitwan National Park (CNP) for transfer of water buffaloes from Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve.

The Department will set up the enclosure in an area straddling 40 hectares of land in partnership with CNP, Green Forest Programme and National Trust for Nature Conservation.

Department's Under Secretary, Laxman Poudel, said the enclosure was being set up for transfer of water buffaloes that are only found in Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve. "In the first phase, the department will transfer five male and 15 female water buffaloes for conservation," he said.

The water buffalo population counted at 327 in 2014 has now grown to 432. RSS
