KATHMANDU, Oct 14:  Eight rights-oriented constitutional commissions will jointly monitor and evaluate the elections to the members of the House of Representatives and the provincial assemblies to be held on November 20.

A meeting of the chairpersons of the National Human Rights Commission, Madhesi Commission, Women's Commission, Tharu Commission, National Inclusion Commission, Muslim Commission and Dalit Commission has decided to form a joint mechanism to monitor the elections and evaluate them and make recommendations to the government. Since the role of constitutional commissions is important during the election, the meeting has decided to seriously monitor issues such as people’s freedom, fundamental rights, and human rights.

During the meeting, Chairman of Madhesi Commission Dr Bijay Kumar Dutta has said that due to low participation of Madhesi women, Madhesi Dalits and others in the current election, a question has been raised about proportional inclusion. The meeting also expressed concern over the fact that proportional inclusion is not taken seriously by all major political parties.
