KATHMANDU, Aug 19: The Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association (NLPFA) has reduced the price of eggs by Rs 25 to 75 per crate. The price of eggs, last set on July 12, has been reduced with effect from Monday.
Egg price increased, still short of production cost
On July 12, the price of the largest (XL) size egg was set at Rs 530 per crate, the large egg at Rs 510 per crate, and the medium-sized egg at Rs 490 per crate. The NLPFA's meeting held on Sunday set the price of the largest size egg at Rs 500 per crate. Similarly, the price per crate of large eggs is Rs 485, and the price per crate of medium eggs is Rs 415.
According to the NLPFA, the price is determined by egg producers based on production cost, demand, and supply. The meeting also decided to use new cartons with the name and address of the farm and not to use the old, plain cartons while transporting eggs.
