Minister Pokharel said during a press conference in the capital on Tuesday that the Ministry of Education will organize an intense interaction program in between Tihar and Chhath festivals in the Tarai districts to convince the protestors to resume classes.
"Some of the top leaders from the Madhesi Morcha have unofficially agreed to support the MoE's move to make favorable environment for running schools," Minister informed during the press conference.
In response to the media query on the government's strategy to complete the course and meet the academic calendar of 220 days, Minister Pokharel said that the government would ensure that courses shall be complete at any cost till the end of the academic session.
"The SLC Board exams and the final exams will not be postponed at any cost," stated Minister Pokharel. The minister assured this at a time when the schools have been fearing that even minimum 180 days of calendar might not be met with the deepening crisis and its direct impact upon schools and students.
As most of the Valley-based schools have been closed in between Dashain and Tihar following the fuel crisis, the government is planning to give priority to school vehicles so that the classes can run uninterrupted after Tihar, claimed Pokharel.
The private schools' vehicles would be allotted fuel after the government stores the grant fuel arriving from China, he mentioned.
In his first press meet after becoming the education minister, Pokharel forwarded reform plans in the medical education sector.
"The students who want to study MBBS on donation must be qualified for admission on the basis of merit," he added.
"The ministry expects the students and guardians to understand this step of the government with the intention of sending deserving candidates on donation as well," said Minister Pokharel, adding that having money to spend for medical education must not determine the students' admission for the course.
