EC registers seven more parties

KATHMANDU, May 2: The Election Commission (EC) registered seven more political parties on Thursday. The parties that were registered at the commission are Rastriya Janamukti Party, Socialist People´s Party, Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Nepal (MPRF-N), Rastriya Janamorcha, Communist Party of Nepal (Samyukta), Rastriya Janashakti Party and Nepali Janta Dal.



MPRF-N Chairman Upendra Yadav along with a group of party members registered his party even as he has has announced to boycot the polls to be conducted by the present government. [break]The government´s talks team and the Yadav-led alliance also held talks on Thursday to this effect.



Eleven political parties had registered for the upcoming Constituent Assembly polls on the first day of registration on Tuesday. There was no registration on Wednesday as it was a public holiday.



"The number of political parties to register at the Election Commission is likely to increase significantly because at least 70 forms have already been taken," EC Spokesperson Madhu Prasad Regmi,told Republica.



The registration process will continue till May 31.



Altogether, 54 political parties had contested the CA elections in 2008 and 25 of them were elected to then Constituent Assembly. Later the number increased to 33 due to their split.



Political parties represented in the erstwhile CA should submit a letter from parliament secretariat, while the new parties should produce signatures of 10,000 people for registration.
