EC Spokesperson Bir Bahadur Rai said EC officials will register new voters in all the district headquarters across the country till Friday. “The final lists of all voters will be published on September 7,” he added.
According to EC officials, the commission will provide time for claim and objections also to new voters, who will be registered in the next seven days. The constitutional body on Thursday had decided to give one-week window period for voters who are yet to be registered on the new electoral roll following the request of various political parties. EC has said that Nepali citizens who have completed 18 years of age by mid-July this year can be registered on the new electoral roll within the given timeline.
The High Level Political Committee (HLPC) on August 2 had formally requested the constitutional body to provide another chance for missing voters to register on the electoral roll.
The constitutional body has already announced calendar of events and the program for the proportional representation and first-past-the-post (FPTP) electoral systems.
Also, EC has already set mid-July of this year as the cutoff date for registration for the purposes of the upcoming CA election.
EC has registered 12.3 million voters on the new electoral roll with photo and biometrics over the last three years. The commission had concluded voter registration on July 15.
Former royals register for vote
Members of the former royal family on Saturday registered on the new electoral roll at the District Election Office (DEO), Kathmandu.
According to Chief of DEO Shambhu Chalise, daughters of late Dhirendra Shah -- Pooja Shah, Sitashma Shah and Dilasha Shah -- -- registered on the new electoral roll.
Former King Gyanendra Shah is already registered on the new electoral roll.
Altogether, 2,500 voters were registered at the Kathmandu District Election Office on Saturday.
