Dr Koirala insists on corruption prevention

KATHMANDU, May 19: Nepali Congress leader and federal parliamentarian Dr Shashank Koirala has insisted on taking measures to prevent corruption.

KATHMANDU, May 19: Nepali Congress leader and federal parliamentarian Dr Shashank Koirala has insisted on taking measures to prevent corruption.


In his address to the convention of Nepal Press Union, Nawarparasi East in Nawalpur today, the leader said, "I was ridiculed at the parliament when I said corruption is not eradicable, thus it should be reduced. But the intention of mine was that our efforts be for its prevention."


On the occasion, the leader highlighted the role of media in promoting social transformations. "Whoever has good understanding of journalism, they have a big role in transforming the society," he said, urging journalists to do their jobs impartially.

Four journalists including RSS' Basnet awarded


On the occasion, four journalists including National News Agency (RSS) senior journalist Surya Chandra Basnet were honoured with the 'Suryabhakta Patanadevi National Journalism Award' carrying a purse of Rs 25,000 each. Basent is currently the RSS executive editor and Province and District Bureau Chief.


Others receiving the award are BBC Nepali service Chitwan correspondent Ishwor Joshi, Vijay FM Chair Dr Bhumiraj Chapagain and Nepal Television Board of Directors Chair Samir Jung Shah, according to NPU Nawalpur president Birendra Parajuli.
