KATHMANDU, Jan 9: Police have arrested a few individuals including senior orthopedic surgeon and medical education reform activist Dr Govind KC from Maitighar.
Dr Govind KC and another activist Pawan Thapa were arrested by police from Maitighar Mandala on Tuesday afternoon. They are currently kept in Singha Durbar police office.

Dr KC, who has been conducting a hunger strike and protesting for a long-time demanding reform and access to medical education, was arrested by the police after he staged protests in the prohibited area. "We staged a peaceful protest. However, police arrested and brought us here at Singha Durbar police circle," said Thapa.
Dr KC and Thapa staged a protest demanding that Maitighar should not be made a prohibited area and that citizens should be allowed to express their grievances. Local administration in Kathmandu has declared the Maitighar area as a prohibited zone for staging any kinds of protests.
