KATHMANDU, Dec 14: The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has expressed concern over the postponement of Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao´s proposed visit to Nepal, stating that the latest development has raised a question over diplomatic capacity of the incumbent government.

NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel on Wednesday said the sudden postponement of Wen´s Nepal visit must not be taken lightly. [break]

China on Tuesday suddenly postponed the proposed Wen´s Nepal visit citing he was required to be at home to deal with some economic issues.

“The sudden cancellation of such a high-level visit of the Chinese prime minister can not be taken lightly,” reads the press statement issued by Paudel on Wednesday afternoon.

Paudel has said the cancellation of such a high-level visit should have been announced by both the countries simultaneously.

“The one-sided announcement by Prime Minister Bhattarai is a serious matter as it has raised various speculations,” added Paudel.

Prime Minister Bhattarai had told the media last month that his Chinese counterpart was visiting Nepal from December 20.

Paudel has demanded that the government inform the people about the reason behind postponement of Wen´s visit and has also urged the government to be serious about diplomatic issues.
