KATHMANDU, June 8: The Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE) has introduced a new provision requiring licensed manpower agencies to provide a Google Plus Code revealing their exact digital location when renewing their licenses. This code must also be mandatorily displayed on the agency’s website.

According to the DoFE, this measure will make it easier for both service seekers and the department to locate the agencies, thereby facilitating monitoring. It also aims to ensure the advanced use of information technology.

In a notice published on June 9, the DoFE has called on all licensed institutions involved in foreign employment services to renew their licenses and approvals annually, as required by prevailing laws including the Foreign Employment Act 2064, The Foreign Employment Rules, 2064 (2008), the Good Governance (Management and Operation) Act 2064, and other applicable legal provisions.

The notice applies to licensed institutions involved in foreign employment, their approved branch offices, institutions providing orientation training, caregiver skill development training providers, domestic worker skill training providers, institutions offering skill-based training to workers going abroad, and agencies listed for sending workers to specific countries. The DoFE has urged these institutions to complete their license or permit renewal within the prescribed time frame.

The DoFE published this notice informing all concerned that failure to comply will result in actions as per the prevailing laws. It also stated that the full details of the notice are available on the DoFE’s website.

In addition to the basic documents required for renewal, the DoFE now mandates the submission of the Google Plus Code, Google location, and detailed information of all current operators and employed staff along with the application.

Director General of the DoFE, Kamal Prasad Bhattarai, stated that while in previous years the department used to issue a public notice annually reminding institutions of the legal requirements, institutions are now required to update their status in accordance with the provisions outlined in the prevailing laws starting this year.

Bhattarai stated that as per the legal provisions, licensed institutions and orientation training providers must complete their renewal within the month of Asar (mid-June to mid-July) each year, while the branch offices of manpower agencies must be renewed by the end of Ashoj (mid-October).
