KATHMANDU, July 18: Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has decided to shut down health services except for emergency in all public and private hospitals across the country on Thursday.
Organizing a press conference in the capital on Wednesday, the umbrella organization of doctors, NMA has decided to shut all medical and health services at public and private hospitals, nursing homes and private clinics, accusing the government for being reluctant on addressing all the demands raised by Dr Govinda KC.
Valley DAOs suspend all except emergency services
Dr KC has been staging his fast-unto-death for last 19 days in Jumla demanding the reforms in medical education, demanding that the government introduce a new medical education law as recommended by the Kedar Bhakta Mathema-led commission.
Speaking during the press meet, the officials of NMA has urged all the medical personals to participate in a protest program to be organized at Maitighar Mandala on Thursday.
The stakeholders have said that they are organizing the protest program for one day to stimulate the government to address the demand put forward by Dr KC and have warned the government of indefinite strike in health services if it shows no interest in fulfilling the demand and ensure to save the life of Dr KC. The organization has also warned that the government will be held responsible if the strike of doctors’ results in some untoward incident.
