Even after a series of meetings, the Central Committee (CC) could not take a decision in this regard as the CC members opposed the names proposed by top party leadership. [break]
“In the past, members would not oppose any decision of the top leadership, but the party has now come into the open and the leaders don´t hesitate to speak against top leaders,” said a senior Maoist leader.
The party plans to add 38 members in the existing 137-member CC, 10 in the existing 45-member politburo and four or five in the existing 16-member standing committee.
The CC members had complained that the party was poised to induct only those cadres with close links to top leaders while sidelining honest ones who have made significant contributions to the party.
According to a leader, the party planned to add 38 new leaders in the central committee, but around 600 names surfaced. The Maoist party will also amend its statute to expand the size of the top bodies. “The CC will sit on Thursday and take a decision,” said Maoist spokesperson Dinanath Sharma.
The meeting was postponed till Thursday as party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is scheduled to address a function in Gorkha on Wednesday.
The Maoist party will also make some changes in the leadership of state committees. Geographically, the party has divided the country into 13 state committees led by in-charges.
