KATHMANDU, Dec 22: Disgruntled leaders of Madhes-based parties, including ministers and lawmakers, on Tuesday decided to form an alliance in an apparent bid to “expose the real character” of the Madhesi leaders and to remind them of their responsibilities toward the people of Madhes.

According to a leader from Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (MPRF)-Democratic, a large number of leaders from all four Madhes-based parties -- MPRF (Democratic), MPRF, Nepal, Tarai Madhes Democratic Party and Sadbhawana Party -- decided to form Madhes Kranti Forum (MKF) to make the Madhesi people aware of their rights.[break]

“Madhes Kranti Forum is a social organization with political objectives,” Sanjay Kumar Sah, a leader from MPRF (Democratic) and state minister for the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works, told Republica. Sah has been picked as the coordinator of MKF. Sah said names of other office bearers of the organization would be announced shortly.

“They (Madhesi leaders) have been deceiving the people of Madhes. Our alliance will try to bring them on right track,” said Sah, adding stringent action would be taken against leaders who do not change their conduct.

Ramananda Mandal of MPRF (Democratic) said MKF was formed to pile pressure on Madhesi leaders to focus their attention on Madhes issues.

“If Madhesi leaders fail to address the issues of Madhes, MKF will eventually take the shape of a political party,” Mandal told Republica.

However, Ramjanam Chaudhary, chief whip of MPRF (Democratic) dismissed formation of MKF as a rumor.

Karima Begam, a leader of MPRF (Democratic) and state minister for Agriculture and Cooperative is also said to be a founding member of the MKF.

The formation of MKF comes at a time when Upendra Yadav-led MPRF is said to be on the verge of split. Yadav led forum had also begun as an NGO, which later took the form of a political party and spearheaded the Madhes Movement in January 2007.

Yadav-led MPRF then joined hands with Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar, who defected from Nepali Congress just a few days ahead of the CA election in April 2008, to become the fourth largest party of the country.

However, partnership between Yadav and Gachchhadar could not continue for long as Gachchhadar split from MPRF to register a new party by the name of MPRF (Democratic) in August 2009.
