KATHMANDU, Oct 12: As Dorje Lama Gurung, who had filed his candidacy from Manang's Provincial Assembly-2, withdrew his candidacy, independent candidate Dipak Manange alias Rajiv Gurung has been elected unopposed.
Both Dorje Lama Gurung and Dipak Manange had registered their candidacies as independent candidates from that constituency. Manange was supported by the ruling coalition and CPN-UML.
Gangster-turned provincial assembly member Manange joins ruling...
Manange had initially said that he would contest the election with the support of the ruling coalition. But UML also did not field a candidate against him after he announced that he had left the alliance before the nomination.
Manange had won the election as an independent candidate in 2017 with the support of UML.
He was the Sports Minister in the Gandaki provincial government led by Prithvi Subba Gurung. After Prithvi Subba Gurung's government fell into minority, Gurung supported the alliance. He succeeded in becoming the Youth and Sports Minister in the Krishnachandra Pokharel-led government formed with his support.
