“Once the new system is installed, the old system will be replaced," he said. "The new system has good transmission system and it will not have to face network traffic.” About a year ago, China had agreed to offer the system after Nepal Police requested for it.
According to DIG Amrit Shrestha, the system costs over Rs 250 million and the agreement on the project was signed in China during the visit of then home minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar.
About a month after of his visit to China, a team from China had come to Kathmandu and carried out a technical study. After the team studied existing system, which is considered to be relatively weak, they suggested that it be repalced with a digital system, DIG Shrestha said.
According to the police officials, the new technology will have wider reach than the existing system.
The system is totally computer controlled system and with the help of band of channels the users are operated from a control room which is to be installed in the Metropolitan Police Commissioner´s Office in Rani Pokhari.
The control room will monitor the system through 24 LCD monitors and police officers holding the trunk system will not be able to lie about their locations, DIG Shrestha said.
Earlier, the Nepal Police had decided to bring the system from USA but later China offered to provide the system without any payment. According to police sources, after the government requested for the system before CA election, China without any delays sent the system and technicians.
Similar types of system are already in use in Pokhara and Sindhupalchowk district and if the government invests more on the project, all the systems can be interconnected in the future.
