KATHMANDU, Aug 17: The Kathmandu Valley Road Expansion Project (KVREP) said that there had been delays to construct the Chabahil-Jorpati-Sankhu road due to various obstructions.
In its response to the Road Division, the Project said that obstructions included protests from local residents, stay order, compensation debate among others,” Chief KVERP, Deepak KC said. “Such obstructions have affected drainage management and laying pipes, even when there is an approved design for road expansion.”
KC added that the company had repeatedly filled the potholes to ease vehicular movements, including last year when they carried out massive road maintenance. He added that the current drainage pipes were in poor conditions and could not withstand current monsoon. “As a result, rainwater fills the potholes.”

However, the project has expedited work to manage and install drainage pipe. “On July/August, we have fitted more than 700 meters of drainage pipes,” the letter said adding that they would install the pipes up to an outlet point at Boudha-Jorpati within a couple of days. “Then, we will repair the potholes.”
KC said that the project had also urged contractors to immediately fix the potholes and start blacktopping of existing road width. “Prior to blacktopping, we urge all companies to grade and align the road, manage water drainage and build pavements.”
