According to Myagdi District Development Committee (DDC), the proposed Dhaulagiri Conservation Area, once it is established, will monitor and control the rampant environmental depletion and conserve flora and fauna in all three districts.[break]
With mutual participation and the coordination of political parties and stakeholders, the DDC has already submitted the proposal for the Dhaulagiri Conservation Area to the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation and the Ministry of Finance, informed Local Development Officer in the district Bhisnu Prasad Sharma.
Sharma asserted that the crux of this endeavor was to preserve and develop the ample bio-diversity to be found in these districts.
´Our motive is to conserve the rich greenery and the habitation of the flora and fauna of the districts, along with the geographical and cultural diversity”, said Sharma.
The major tourist destination of Dhorpatan extends from Baglung to Mustang while the Dhaulagiri circuit would also fall under the jurisdiction of the Dhulagiri Conservation Area.
´All natural heritage found in the Dorpatan area and Lete, Kowang and Ghasa of Mustang and Romche, Histan, Dhar, Shikh, Narangchang, Pakhapani, Kuele, Mangale, Mudi, Gurja and Lulang of Myagdi will fall within the conservation area,´ said Sharma.
According to him, the conservation areas and parks were running on a project basis in the past but now they have been handed over to the local authorities.
´We believe the establishment of the conservation area will null all the illegal activities involving poaching and smuggling of herbs and animals in the forests of these districts,´ said Sharma.
