KATHMANDU, Feb 12: Devotees observed the annual Pashupatinath shadow darshan with great reverence on Tuesday, the day of Magh Shukla Chaturdashi.
The festival takes place as the sun begins its northward movement, lengthening the days and signaling the retreat of winter. On this day, devotees perform special rituals at the Pashupatinath Temple and view the shadow of Lord Shiva’s linga.

The Pashupati Area Development Trust organized the event, where local Newar community devotees worshipped the Shiva linga of Pashupatinath and adorned it with a new crown. After completing the rituals, they placed water in the courtyard to reflect the shadow of the Shiva linga, allowing devotees and pilgrims to witness the sacred vision.
The shadow of the deity holds particular significance on this day. Devotees crowded around to catch a glimpse of the shadow, which remained visible from midday until the evening Aarti. Ishwar Bhandari, Chief of the Culture Preservation Division, informed that thousands of devotees lined up to view the shadow of Pashupatinath.
Pashupatinath, the revered deity of Hindus worldwide, serves as the focal point of Sanatan civilization. Thousands of devotees gathered to witness the shadow of Pashupatinath, whose temple area spans a vast region that includes Devpatan, Jaya Bageshwori, Gaurighat, Chabahil, Kutumbahal, Sifal, Gaushala, Pingalasthan, and Shleshmanthak Forest.
The sacred Bagmati River has nourished the Pashupati area since ancient times, and it houses around 492 small and large temples, satsals, stone taps, shrines, monasteries, and nearly 1,000 Shiva lingas of various styles.
