KATHMANDU, September 10: The Legislature-Parliament Development Committee has decided to recommend to not form an association of the local level governments.

The decision was taken by a majority after a voting took place on the matter following deliberations on the report of the Sub-committee on the local level governance bill, 2016.

A total of 17 members of the committee voted against it while nine were in favour of it.

The committee shall now present its report to the next meeting of the Legislature-Parliament. In relation to a clause reading 'associations to be formed' in the bill now registered in the parliament, the Sub-committee had recommended that the local levels could form separate associations of their own to help facilitate the dialogue, coordination and collaboration with the federation and provinces.
