KATHMANDU, Aug 18: The government has fully digitized the Department of Labor and Occupational Safety and started providing all of its services online. Minister Sharat Singh Bhandari inaugurated the Integrated Labor Management Information System (ILMIS) at a program held today at the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security.
The department has started providing online services both directly and through its subordinate agencies. Maninath Gope, director of the department, said that services such as trade union registration, renewal, labor approval of foreign workers working in Nepal, registration and renewal of labor suppliers, registration of occupational accident details, labor audit submission and establishment registration are now accessible online.

The service provided by the department can be accessed from www.ilmis.dolos.gov.np. The department primarily focusES on labor permits for foreign nationals, labor supplier services and trade union operations. The information management system will be used to issue and revoke labor permits to foreign nationals, issue and renew licenses of labor suppliers, change and reduce service and work areas, and revoke licenses.
Similarly, submission of labor audits, registration and recording of details of occupational accidents, updating of statistics of establishments and workers, registration of petitions related to labor disputes, registration and renewal of trade unions, change of name, cancellation and amendment of statutes etc, can be done. Previously, the service-seeker had to be physically present at the Department or its subordinate office. The department has been providing services from offices in Bhadrapur, Biratnagar, Janakpur, Birgunj, Hetauda, Teku, Pokhara, Butwal, Nepalgunj, Surkhet and Dhangadhi.
Keshab Prasad Bimali, director general of the department, said that after the service is provided online, the customers will get rid of the hassle of frequent visits to the Department or its subordinate offices, time will be saved, records will be organized, 'paperless and faceless' service will be provided, data will be easily obtained and there will be up-to-date records of the establishments and workers.
In the last fiscal year, the department issued work permits to 2,998 foreign nationals from 97 different countries. According to the department, 52 labor supplier licenses were granted, 361 were renewed, two trade union federations were registered, 18 trade unions were registered, and 61 trade unions were renewed.
