DEO puts 22 primary schools on merger list

TAPLEJUNG, June 24: District Education Office (DEO) of Taplejung is all set to merge 22 primary schools that do not meet minimum standards set by the government.

"Those 22 schools are found not to have met the government-set standards. Hence, they will be merged with other nearby schools," informed Nilmani Khanal, an official of the DEO.
As per the government rules, there should be at least 40 students per teacher. While in case of hill districts, a school should have at least eight students per class or a total of 40 students. According to Khanal, schools that fail to meet such requirements are to be merged. Additionally, two schools can be merged if they are situated less than half an hour by foot from one another.

According to him, the schools that are on the merger list are Yamfudin Primary School, Krishna Primary School, and Gahubari Primary School, of Yamfudin VDC, Prithivi Primary School of Thumbedin, Pathivara Primary School of Tapethok, Khampiyog Primary School, Sinam Primary School and Lungsung Pauwa Primary School.

Similarly, other schools facing merger are Yanglujung Primary School of Taplejung Municipality-9, Bhanjare Primary School of Pedang, Yangma Primary School of Olangchung Gola, Bishojyoti Primary School and Shiva Primary School of Nankholyang, Ganesh Primary School of Hangpang, Janata Primary School and Deurali Primary School of Limbudin.

The district has a total of 337 schools, out of which 55 are higher secondary, 61 lower secondary and 221 primary, according to Khanal.
