KHOTANG, April 8: The District Education Office (DEO), Khotang, has launched a campaign to make it compulsory for all parents to send their children to school.
The DEO instructed all schools in the district to run campaigns to bring all eligible children to schools following a meeting of the District Textbook Monitoring Committee (DTMC), Khotang on Wednesday.
With this, the DEO has urged the schools to enroll as many students as possible to make sure that no child gets deprived of education. Dhan Bahadur Shrestha, district education officer, informed Republica that this campaign has been launched with the objective of educating more children and increasing the literacy rate.

On March 21, the DEO instructed source persons to collect data of children who are not going to school despite their eligible age. Though the DEO runs this campaign every year, a large number of children in Khotang do not go to school. But this time, DEO is determined to conduct this campaign more effectively, according to Shrestha.
As per the directive of the DEO, the data must be submitted by mid-April. "We are conducting a survey to collect the details of students who have been deprived of education," said Shrestha. He further added that a copy of the details collected should be submitted to the local units and DEO. Currently, surveyors are busy visiting households to collect the data on children.
Not just that, the DEO has also directed schools to provide new course books to each student. Source persons will be sent to schools to inspect whether the schools have provided books to the students, said Shrestha. Besides that, the DTMC has been urged to oversee the availability of the textbooks.
It will also request the book sellers to supply the books as soon as possible. As the course book for English of Grade six 6 to 10 is still not available in the market, the DTMC has been told to request the publication concerned to supply the books as per the demand.
