KATHMANDU, Nov 1: Balendra Shah, the Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), made an unexpected exit from the Valley Mayors’ Forum meeting, citing his inability to speak during the proceedings.

During the meeting held at Lalitpur Metropolitan City on Tuesday, Mayor Shah repeatedly requested the opportunity to address the forum but was denied the floor. In response to the apparent snub, he decided to leave the meeting.

The gathering was presided over by Chiribabu Maharjan, the Mayor of Lalitpur metropolis. According to Mayor Chiribabu of Lalitpur, Mayor Shah sought to speak during a presentation by an organization named Nap Waste on waste management issues in the valley. However, he left the meeting when informed that he could speak only after following the established meeting procedures.

Mayor Maharjan explained, "Every meeting follows a specific procedure, and it is imperative to adhere to it. Mayor Shah, on the other hand, was eager to speak right away. Rather than waiting for his turn after the presentation, he chose to exit the meeting in frustration."

On the contrary, Mayor Shah's secretary, Bhupdev Shah, expressed dissatisfaction with the situation, asserting that it contradicted the agreement reached during the previous meeting with the organization Nap West.

He claimed that the prior meeting had revoked the 2009 agreement concerning waste management in the Kathmandu Valley. However, during yesterday's meeting, Mayor Shah departed after repeatedly requesting the opportunity to address the matter and receiving no response.
