Demands for Birgunj as capital of Madhes state

KATHMANDU, May 5: Parsa based local politicians and professional organizations have formed a struggle committee demanding an undivided Bhojpura region and Birgunj be declared the provincial capital of the Madhes state.



The newly formed Akhanda Bhojpuri Chhetra Sangharsha Samiti organized demonstrations across Birgunj on Saturday and annonced a series of protests to press their demands.[break]



Local politicians aligned to Madhes-based parties were not present at the demonstrations.



Ram Sarraf, media Coordinator of the committee, said the committee would bring Birgunj custom office to a grinding halt with the cooperation of people of Bara district who have already taken to the streets demanding Birgunj be declared the provincial capital of Madhes state.



“Janakpur will not be acceptable to us as capital city of Madhes state,” said Muna Sarraf, Chairman of Engineer Association of Narayani Chapter.
