Fruit prices, however, are fluctuating in the market. Prices of fruits like water melon and pineapple whose season has just started have increased, while prices of fruits whose season is coming to an end have come down.[break]
Dipendra Shrestha, treasurer of Nepal Fruits Wholesalers and Traders Assocaition (NFWTA) at Kuleshwar, said the association has increased imports due to rise in demand for fruits.
Until a month ago, 40 to 50 tons of fruits used to enter the wholesale market every day. But with the rise in demand, the market is getting around 60 tons of fruits a day.
“Demand for fruits that are mostly used for making juice such as pineapple, banana, sugarcane, papaya, apple and grapes has gone up,” added Shrestha.

According to the association, demand for water melon has increased the most. Around 20 tons of water melons are entering the market every day as the season of this fruit has just started.
Prices of apple, pomegranate, orange and pineapple have increased in range of Rs 5 to 15 per kg. Apple is currently selling for Rs 130 per kg, up from last week´s Rs 120 per kg.
Likewise, prices of pine apple and orange have increased by Rs 5 per kg each and are currently priced Rs 75 and Rs 80 per kg respectively. Price of pomegranate has increased by Rs 15 per kg, making it Rs 275 per kg.
However, the price of banana and jackfruit has come down by Rs 5 and Rs 10 per kg respectively. Banana is selling at Rs 60 per dozen, while jackfruit is priced Rs 50 per kg.
