BALEWA, Feb 8: A deer has died at Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, Nepal’s only hunting reserve, due to severe cold.
After there was heavy snowfall in the upper jungle and Buki of the hunting reserve, deer had begun to come to the Dhorpatan Valley. The dead deer was found buried in snow in the forest north of the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve Office, according to the Reserve Office.
Hunters arriving in Dhorpatan as hunting opens for this season
Ranger Supushpa Regmi of Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve said that the deer died while undergoing treatment after being rescued and later it was buried in a pit. The deer that was trapped in the snow was found by a dog.
Due to heavy snowfall in the Buki area of the hunting reserve, wild animals in the upper region come to the Dhorpatan Valley to avoid cold. However, they have been dying of cold as well as starvation in the lower region.
People’s lives have been affected due to the cold in the Dhorpatan area. The road section of Burtiwang-Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve from Suprang to Dhorpatan Valley has been completely blocked. According to Ranger Regmi, traffic on the road has been completely disrupted.
