Deepak Rauniyar’s ‘White Sun’ selected for Qumra 2016

KATHMANDU, Feb 26: Filmmaker Deepak Rauniyar's 'White Sun' has been selected for Doha Film Institute's second edition of Qumra which is its initiative to 'provide mentorship, nurturing, and hands-on development for filmmakers from Qatar and around the world.' Rauniyar's 'White Sun' has been selected with three other films under the 'Feature Narrative, Works-in-Progress' category.

Starting from March 4, the event will take place in Doha, Qatar till March 9.Thirty-three projects from 19 different countries like Morocco, France, Lebanon, the US, Switzerland, and Egypt have been selected for Qumra 2016. The filmmakers will be mentored by more than a hundred industry experts such as script consultants, and representatives of international film festivals, funding bodies, sales, production and distribution companies.

Qumra will also include daily master classes and screen films by renowned filmmakers such as Palme d'Or winner Nuri Bilge Ceylan from Turkey, Caméra d'Or winner Naomi Kawase from Japan, Academy Award nominees Joshua Oppenheimer and James Schamus from the US, and Golden Lion winner Aleksandr Sokurov from Russia. These Masters will be mentoring selected filmmakers and their projects.

'White Sun' is based on Nepali rural life after the decade long civil war. The cast of 'White Sun' includes actors such as Dayahang Rai, Asha Magarati, Rabindra Singh Baniya, Sumi Malla, Amrit Pariyar, Pramod Agrahari, Deepak Chettri, and Desh Bhakta Khanal.
