Import volume of petroleum products sees a decline in Bhadra compared to the previous month

KATHMANDU, Sept 26: KATHMANDU, Sept 26: The volume of petroleum imports has seen a decline from Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August) to Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September) in the current fiscal year.


In Shrawan, 76,716 kiloliters of diesel were imported, whereas Bhadra saw 74,656 kiloliters imported, marking a decline of 2,600 kilometers within a month. The Department of Customs (DoC) reports that a total of 151,372 kiloliters of diesel were imported over these two months.

Regarding petrol imports, 56,901 kiloliters were brought in during Shrawan, and this figure decreased slightly to 55,281 kiloliters in Bhadra. Cumulatively, the DoC indicates that 112,182 kiloliters of petrol were imported during the first two months of the fiscal year.


Notably, there was an uptick in the import of aviation fuel during Bhadra, with an increase of 2,180 kiloliters. In total, 14,728 kiloliters of aviation fuel were imported, compared to the 12,548 kiloliters imported in Shrawan. Over the two months, a total of 27,276 kiloliters of aviation fuel were imported.


Conversely, the import of LPG cylinders experienced a decline, with a reduction of 2,991,410 kg in Bhadra, resulting in a total of 42.6 million kg. In contrast, 45.6 million kg of LPG was imported in Shrawan. The cumulative import of LPG over these two months reached 88.3 million kg.


The DoC data also reveals that in Bhadra, petroleum product imports amounted to Rs 19.49 billion rupees, while in Shrawan, they were valued at Rs 17.79 billion. Thus, the total expenditure on petroleum product imports during these two months stood at Rs 37.29 billion, generating Rs 14.24 billion in customs duties for the government.
