KATHMANDU, Feb 17: Lawmaker Sumana Shrestha of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has objected to Speaker Devraj Ghimire not allocating her time to raise the issue of the death of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal and oppression on other Nepali students at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Odisha, India.
MP Shrestha boycotted the parliament session after Speaker Ghimire refused to grant her permission despite repeated requests.

As soon as the parliament session began, MP Shrestha requested time from the Speaker to speak during an emergency. However, Speaker Ghimire did not permit Shrestha the opportunity to speak, stating that the emergency time had expired after allowing other MPs to speak.
When Shrestha requested time to express her opinion, the Speaker tried to stop her by saying, “You can only speak after taking time from here, and you should take your seat.” But Shrestha maintained her stance, saying that the injustice done to Nepali students should be raised in parliament.
Following the boycott of the parliament meeting, Shrestha wrote on social media, “The Speaker did not consider it necessary to raise this issue at an emergency time. Instead, he considered the issue of what questions to ask the Prime Minister to be more important.”
Shrestha said that the situation of Nepali students studying in Indian universities is serious and the Nepal government should take immediate diplomatic initiatives. She also urged the panicked Nepali students to remain calm.
