KATHMANDU, March 1: Leaders of the major political parties claimed on Friday that they are now very close to a deal on the formation of chief-justice election government before March 7.

Exiting from their meeting with President Dr Ram Baran Yadav in his office in Shital Niwas, UCPN (Maoist) leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara said, “We are very close to a deal. Now there are very few things remaining to be settled. The deal is likely before May 7.” [break]

Nepali Congress Vice-President Ram Chandra Paudel said discussions are ongoing for clearing legal and constitutional hurdles for formation of a CJ-led government. Earlier in the morning, the leaders had met at the prime minister’s residence in Baluwatar.

A hearing by a special bench is due for March 7 in a writ filed at the Supreme Court against the proposal of making the chief justice the head of election government.
