A matching monument with stones from Mt Everest will be unveiled on the shore of the Dead Sea on May 29 commemorating the diamond jubilee celebrations of the first ascent on the world´s tallest peak.
Speaking at a press conference organized to shed light on the monuments established as a symbol of Nepal-Israel relations, Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Sushil Ghimire said the monuments would not only strengthen bilateral friendly relations but also promote tourism.
Nepal should also work towards bringing in agro technology from Israel, that remains exemplary across the globe in terms of agriculture development and marketing of agro produce, he added.
Israeli Ambassador to Nepal, Hanan Goder expressed concern over the impact caused by climate change and other factors to the Dead Sea and Mt Everest and added that preserving the heritage for the coming generation was a duty of the present generation.
Likewise, Mayor of the Tamar Regional Council in Israel, Dov Litvinoff said the Dead Sea attracts some three million tourists every year and so the establishment of an Everest monument there would help promote tourism in Nepal.
Prior to this, Israel and Nepal had issued joint stamps themed ´Mount Everest and the Dead Sea´ to mark the long-standing friendship between the two countries on September 4, 2012.
Nepal and Israel have enjoyed 51 glorious years of diplomatic ties since the diplomatic relations were established in the 1960s.
