Indira Acharya of Ilam Municipality-3 complained that she had to return Rumpum noodles after she found its date had expired a year ago.

Also, ´Pragati Annapurna Besan´ flour which is the product of Akash Food Products based in Khanar, Sunsari, is being sold without mentioning the manufactured date and expiryt date while the manufacturer´s phone number mentioned in the packet is wrong.

Wheat flour (anta) produced by the same company and being sold in the market mentions that its date expired four months ago.

Suji flour produced by Bhudev Food Industry of Lalbandi, Sarlahi, whose consumption date has already been expired, is still selling in the market.

Also a month ago, a market monitoring team headed by Assistant Chief District Officer Keshab Prasad Rijal had found date-expired food commodities such as noodles and edible oil being sold in Ilam municipality, Phikkal and Pashupati Nagar.

“We had told grocers not to sell date-expired food but they have not followed the instructions sincerely,” said Rijal.

Consumers are being cheated due to the lack of awareness among consumers about the consumption date and lack of effective market monitoring by the authorities, said Rijal.
