BUTWAL, Oct 6: Chief Minister of Province 5 Shankar Pokharel has said that Rapti Valley of Dang has been discovered as the most appropriate place for the capital of Province 5 as it “rightly represents the common psychology of the people of the province.”

Addressing a meeting of the provincial assembly earlier on Tuesday, CM Pokharel said that the Rapti river connects the deep-rooted ‘zonal psychology’ of people from the formerly existing three zones (Lumbini, Rapti and Bheri) in the province. The Rapti Valley lying along the banks of the Rapti River has been picked as the capital of the province as it is easily accessible from all the 12 districts of the province and has sufficient land for well-managed urbanization and connects ‘zonal psychology’.

Speaking further he said that there is no good reason to protest against the provincial government’s proposal regarding the province's capital and name.

He urged all lawmakers to vote in favor of the proposal acknowledging the long-term vision of the provincial government to develop the ‘virgin-land’ as a well-managed and model city.

During his address, CM Pokharel also shared that Rupandehi and Kapilvastu will be developed as the financial capital of the province. “The government has been launching its activities prioritizing the all-round development of the province.

Meanwhile, the Province 5 Assembly endorsed the proposal to name Province 5 as Lumbini and make Deukhuri its capital with a two-thirds majority in the assembly on Tuesday afternoon.

During a provincial assembly vote held after deliberations on the proposal, a total of 69 votes were cast in favor of the proposal while 13 provincial assembly members voted against the proposal. Likewise, four provincial assembly members abstained from voting. There are a total of 87 members in Province 5 Assembly.
