Addressing the ongoing party Central Committee (CC) meeting at party headquarter Perisdanda, Shrestha, who is also a CC member, said all the vital organizations under the command of Chairman Dahal have been paying lip service but trying to weaken the government. [break]
The present government was formed under the party line but has not been able to secure wholehearted support from the party organizations, a CC member quoted Shrestha as saying.
Shrestha´s remarks comes after ministers in the present government representing both the Dahal and Baidya factions, criticized the government at the CC meeting accusing it of functioning in accordance with Bhattarai´s policy and not the party policy.
Baidya faction has been demanding dissolution of the government, claiming that it is being run by “foreign brokers” and has failed to live up to people´s expectations.
He also defended the signing of BIPPA with India and argued that the agreement was essential for integrating the country with the global economy. Deputy Prime Minister and party Vice-chairman Narayankaji Shrestha faction had also criticized the BIPPA agreement.
Speaking at the CC meeting Friday, party standing committee member Giriraj Mani Pokharel, a close ally of chairman Dahal, said the BIPPA agreement was not necessary and labeled it as a lopsided agreement.
He also criticized the government´s performance and working style of Dahal and Bhattarai. “There is a growing tendency among party leadership to misuse state power to fulfill the interests of their respective factions. This has sidelined those not associated with any influential faction,” Shrestha was quoted as saying.
