KATHMANDU, May 26: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said on Sunday that the country should go to new elections without making any change in the existing electoral laws.

“We should not make changes in the electoral laws that were in place during the previous Constituent Assembly elections,” Dahal said, “as doing so will hamper, rather than help conduct  the new elections.” [break]

Addressing a function in the capital, Dahal, stating that new elections have become the country’s top priority, said everybody should refrain from doing anything that would negatively impact the holding of new elections. The Maoist party has been against the proposed new electoral laws that require candidates to submit details of their property and bars from running anybody convicted in serious crimes, among other things.
