KATHMANDU, May 25: Main opposition CPN-UML has accused Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal of creating further confusion by quitting the post instead of resolving various urgent political complications that have added challenges in holding second phase of local elections.

A standing committee meeting of the second-largest party said that the prime minister pushed the second phase of the local elections in confusion by adding 22 more local units just ahead of the polls.

The party in its statement issued after the meeting said that the prime minister quit the post when it became urgent to introduce the government's policy and program and present annual budget among other pressing tasks.

“Instead of taking serious initiatives to create conducive political environment, the prime minister who is responsible to hold the elections on the scheduled date made the situation more confusing by resigning from the post,” read the statement issued by party spokesperson Yogesh Bhattarai.

Though Prime Minister Dahal planned to announce his resignation while addressing the parliament meeting on Tuesday, he had to announce it on a televised address to the nation as the UML announced to obstruct the House meeting.
