Dadeldhura locals take to streets against Kanchanpur rape case

DADELDHURA, Aug 22: Locals on Wednesday took to the streets demanding stringent action against the murderer of Nirmala Panta at the district headquarters, Khalanga.

DADELDHURA, Aug 22: Locals on Wednesday took to the streets demanding stringent action against the murderer of Nirmala Panta at the district headquarters, Khalanga.


Nagarik Sarokar, a civil society group, staged demonstration shouting slogans, ‘Ensure Citizens’ Security,’ ‘Maintain Rule of Law,’ ‘End Impunity,’ ‘Protect Human Rights.’ The demonstrators wearing black armbands took out a rally from Tufandanda to Bag Bazaar today. People from various walks of life including representatives from Civil Society, Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Federation of Non-government Organizations, Women Liberation Society and other stakeholders participated in the demonstration.

Speaking at a corner meeting organized at Bag Bazaar following the really, Arati Joshi, chairperson of Women Liberation Society strongly demanded that the government bring the guilty to book without delay following proper investigation.


Similarly, Chairman of Federation of Non-government Organizations Tek Raj Pandey warned of stir against the government if it did not nab the culprit immediately.


FNJ Dadeldhura chapter Chairman Man Bahadur Saud came down heavily on the government for remaining clueless about the murderer of the girl even after 27 days of the incident.


Likewise, hotelier Govinda Khadayat sought dismissal of the Kanchanpur District Police chief arguing that he failed to maintain law and order and nab the culprit even after 27 days of the gruesome incident.


A 13-year-old Nirmala Panta had been ruthlessly raped and killed at Bhimdatta municipality-2 in Kanchanpur district on July 26.
