Cricketer Chetri felicitated

KATHMANDU, December 1: Cricketer Mahesh Chhetri has been felicitated with Nepalgunj Sports Honor award on Friday. Chhetri, was awarded with a scooter from an organization called Creative Hands, for his contributions to the Nepali sports sector. 

In the ceremony organized in the capital, Chetri was feted by National Sports Council (NSC)'s Member Secretary Keshav Kumar Bista among other guests. 

Creative Hands awards players hailing from Mid-western and Far-western Regions for their contributions to the nation's sports. It had feted member of the national women's cricket team five years ago. 

 Chetri, who hails from Nepalgunj had played for Nepal for the first time in 2002 with a call-up to U-15 cricket team squad while he was promoted to U-19 squad in 2009. Similarly, Chetri's national team debut came in 2006 during an ACC Trophy held in Malaysia. He was an important member of the national team when Nepal qualified for ICC World Twenty20 in 2014.    

After being felicitated, wicket-keeper Chetri who is now skipper of Tribhuvan Army Club in domestic cricket, said that it was one of the biggest achievements of his cricketing career. “I have struggled so much in my life in order to establish myself in Nepali cricket. And I take this felicitation as one of the achievements gained due to all the struggles I made in Nepali cricket,” said Chetri. 

NSC's Member Secretary Bista thanked Creative Hands for honoring cricketer Chetri who has played for long period in national team.

On the same occasion, Creative Hands' President TS Thakuri expressed commitment of felicitating the players every year.
