CPN-UML’s student leaders assault policemen in Thamel

According to sources, the attackers were student leaders from the All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU) affiliated to the CPN-UML, including leaders Kamal Joshi and Dinesh Sigdel.

KATHMANDU, Feb 7: Two policemen deployed on duty in Kathmandu have been assaulted by leaders from the ruling party CPN-UML’s student wing. 


The incident took place at Amrit Marga in Thamel, where two officers, Raghu Gharti and Nagendra Bishta, from the Quick Response Team (QRT), were deployed from the Durbar Marg Police Station.


According to sources, the attackers were student leaders from the All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU) affiliated to the CPN-UML, including leaders Kamal Joshi and Dinesh Sigdel.

According to the source, police tried to intervene with the individuals, who were causing a disturbance after drinking alcohol, but instead, the individuals became aggressive and attacked the officers. They also damaged the police's motorcycle and helmet during the incident.


According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Apil Raj Bohra of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, the search operation to locate them is currently ongoing. They are currently absconding. 


“They are being searched based on CCTV footage,” Bohora said. 


The injured Gharti and Bista are undergoing treatment.
