A joint team from District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu, Department of Commerce (DoC) and consumer rights organizations padlocked the gudpak shop that had reopened from Wednesday and was selling food items other than gudpak.[break]
“We re-sealed the gudpak outlet as it was reopened without government permission and the cases filed against the proprietors for selling low-grade products to consumers are yet to be settled,” Tika Bhandari, director of DoC told Republica.
Proprietors Madan Baba Maskey and her son Manera Lal Maskey were arrested from their residence in September after a market inspection team found that the gudpak producers used substandard raw materials and recycled outdated gudpak to produce ´fresh gudpak´ putting the health of consumers at risk.
Cases have been filed at DAO, Kathmandu, under Food Act by Department of Food Technology and Quality Control and Black Marketeering Act by DAO itself against the duo who were released on bail three months ago.
The DoC is also making final preparation to file a case against them under the Consumer Rights Protection Act.
