Cop, JTMMP man die in exchange of fire

BARA, Sept 19: A head constable and a cadre of the Janatantrik Tarai Madhes Mukti Party (JTMMP) were shot dead in a gunfire exchange between police and JTMMP cadres in Bara Monday morning.



A police patrol was attacked by three JTMMP men near Badkiphuwariya-8 at 9 am. Head constable Rahesh Raut, 28, who was posted at Sanphulwa police post, was shot dead by the JTMM men, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Anurag Dwiwedi.[break]



The police returned fire, following which 40-year-old Jayamangal Prasad Yadav alias Ajay of Kabahigoth-9 was killed. He was the group’s coordinator for Bara district.



Yadav, who was previously with the Goit group, joined the Abhay Singh-led JTMMP a year ago. Yadav died on the spot while Raut died at noon while receiving treatment at Birendra Police Hospital in Kathmandu. He was rushed to the capital after preliminary treatment at Narayani Sub-regional Hospital in Birgunj.



Raut is a permanent resident of Pasaili-5, Mahottari.



Police have arrested Misrilal Yadav who was involved in Monday’s incident and recovered a pistol and five bullets from him.



Meamwhile, Abhay Singh, who identified himself as JTMMP in-charge of Bara, Parsa and Rautahat, called local journalists and confirmed that a cadre of his party had died in the crossfire.
