Construction of Motipur and Sandhikharka substations in last phase, expected to be operational within December

KATHMANDU, Nov 15: The construction of 132/33/11 kV substation in Banganga Municipality-7 of Kapilvastu and Sandhikharka of Arghakhanchi is in the final phase.

The construction work has been expedited with the aim of bringing Kapilvastu's Motipur and Arghakhanchi's Sandhikharka substations into operation by December 1 and 30, respectively.

The final phase of construction is underway at Motipur and Sandhikharka substations under the Burtiwang-Paudi Amarai-Tamghas-Sandhikharka Gorusinghe 132 kV transmission line project.

The substation will have 30 MVA and 16 MVA power transformers. All the equipment of the substation is being connected and tested.

The East-West 132 kV line will be taken to Motipur substation by constructing eight towers. While the towers have been already constructed, wires are currently being installed.

The foundations of 106 towers on the Motipur-Sandhikharka transmission line section under the project have been laid already, according to the project officials. A total of 87 towers have been erected and 12 kilometers of wire has been laid for the purpose.

The length of the transmission line of this section is 68 kilometers. Work is underway to complete the construction of the transmission line within December 30 and bring it into operation.

After the completion of the construction of Motipur-Sandhikharka transmission line and substations, electricity will be supplied to the local area from there. From this, power supply of Kapilvastu, Argharkhachi, Palpa and Gulmi districts will be reliable and of quality. Technical leakage of electricity will also be reduced.

At present, electricity is being supplied to Argharkhachi, Palpa and Gulmi through a 33 kV transmission line from Butwal. As the 33 kV transmission line is very long, there is a problem of line tripping and flashing of voltage. The problem of technical leakage has also been reported.

After monitoring the construction site of Motipur substation and transmission line, Managing Director at Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Kulman Ghising said that the work should be completed ahead of schedule. “I have received many complaints directly from Arghakhanchi, Palpa and Gulmi districts regarding power tripping. So, the construction of substations and transmission lines should be completed as soon as possible to provide reliable electricity supply to the consumers.”
